Topic
Ensuring Workplace Ethics Through Investigations
A thorough well documented internal investigation is often an organization’s best defense to a lawsuit and/or a State/Federal Agency review. Perhaps more importantly, a thorough investigation that is communicated back to the parties in the complaint is more likely to restore trust in the organization’s ethical operations and to restore employee morale. In addition, an ethical, timely, thorough investigation provides an avenue for cost savings for the employer. These savings are recognized through reduced litigation and top performing employees. This presentation will address the importance of a good internal investigation, how the employer knows it is on notice to conduct an investigation, steps to take to prepare for the investigation, conducting interviews and collecting documentation, report writing and dissemination.
Objectives:
- Participants will be able to explain how individual ethics, leadership ethics, and governance merge in organizational ethics.
- Participants will be able to explain how a well conducted investigation and human resources intersects in the financial operations of an organization.
- Participants will describe when the employer is on notice that an investigation needs to be initiated.
- Participants will identify the elements of an investigative report.
- Participants will describe interviewing techniques/strategies.
- Participants will explain how ethics and finance play roles in establishing corrective and remedial action following an investigation.
- Participants will outline how ethics influence the organizational partners who should play a role in conducting a thorough internal investigation.
